ENTRY FEES
Marathon (early without shirt/early with shirt/late) = $40/$45/$55

14k (early without shirt/early with shirt/late) = $30/$35/$45

Registration costs this year have gone down $5.  This is to compensate for the park entrance fee.

There will be a processing fee for RaceIt.com when registering.  You can more than offset that fee by donating an old pair of athletic shoes on race day* (see below).

RACE DESCRIPTION
The course is a loop encircling the park.  The marathon will be three loops and the 14k will be one.  The course consists primarily of double-track trails with a little bit of gravel and a few road crossings along the way.  You can find more information on the "course info" page.

TIME LIMITS
Both events will officially end at 2:30 p.m. Central Time.  Anyone taking more than 7:00:00.00 to complete this event will have a DNF in the official results.  Also, after 5:00:00.00 no participant will be allowed to begin a third loop - they must exit the course.  Any participant who has not begun their third loop by the 5-hour mark will have a DNF in the official results.  Please consider and respect these time limits before registering.

AID STATIONS
There will be two aid stations*.  one at the start/finish, and one at the midpoint along the loop (4.3 mi).  Aid stations will have H2O, Gatorade, Clif Shots, bananas, pretzels, etc.  We encourage runners to carry refillable bottles* for fluids.

AWARDS
Awards will be given to the top two male and female finishers in each of the two races.  Finisher's awards for those completing the MARATHON will be provided.  Nothing special, just a small, environmentally friendly momento.

DROP BAGS
Marathon participants may bring a drop bag if they wish.  It can be left near the start/finish of the loop and will then be available at miles 9.1 & 17.7.  Please plan weather accordingly though.  Drop bags will simply be set out in a designated area completely exposed to the elements.

PARKING
On race day follow the signs starting at the park entrance.  Runners, volunteers, and spectators will be parking at the Lincoln Amphitheatre.  After entering the park take the first available right turn (there is a road on the right before this turn, but it is blocked with a gate) and stay on that road until it ends at the amphitheatre parking lot. The start/finish area will be at the entrance to the parking lot.

*ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY
It is our intention to make all aspects of this event as environmentally friendly as we can.  As part of that effort the park's entry fee (per vehicle; $5 for IN tags / $7 for out-of-state) will be maintained for participants and spectators to encourage carpooling.  We have lowered registration fees by $5 this year to compensate for the park entry fee.

All participants who bring an old pair of running/athletic shoes to donate on race day will receive $5 cash.  This is only valid prior to the race start on 10/10/10.  Shoes can be in any condition.  They will be sorted through, donated if there is still some life in them, or recycled if completely expired.  Also, you can save $5 on registration if you opt to not receive a t-shirt.

Please check out the "environment" page to see all of the other things we're doing!

HOTELS/ACCOMODATIONS
For those traveling from afar who will be overnight guests in the area we recommend a hotel just 4 miles east of the park along Hwy. 162 called Santa's Lodge in Santa Claus, IN.  They have been kind enough to offer race participants a reduced rate of $74.99/night for a standard room.  All you need to do is tell them your with the Honest Abe Trail Run to get the discounted price.  You can contact Santa's Lodge at 812-937-1902 or check them out online HERE.

Also, our host, Lincoln State Park has many camping and cabin opportunities.  For park reservations call 1-866-622-6746, or do it online.

VOLUNTEERS
We've never done this before, but we're guessing finding enough volunteers will be tough.  If you don't think the race is for you this year, but would like to help please contact us!  Also, if you have a friend or loved one coming with you who would like to help, any contribution would be very much appreciated.  We can't offer much more than a humble Thank You and the gratitude of knowing you're helping do your part for Lincoln State Park and the environment around you.  Oh yeah, and if you commit to volunteering by noon on 9/24/10 you'll get a race t-shirt too!!!
